If your laptop takes a long time to start or freezes when opening files, an old spinning hard drive may be the cause. Switching to an SSD is one of the best upgrades for an older laptop. It starts faster, opens programs quicker and has no moving parts to wear out.

We also replace failed SSDs and add space when your drive is full. When the old drive still works, we copy your system and files to the new one so the laptop works like before, just faster. Newer MacBooks have storage built into the board, and we tell you when an upgrade is not possible.

Signs you need a new drive

  • Laptop takes a long time to start
  • Spinning wheel or Not Responding all the time

  • Clicking from an older hard drive
  • Boot device not found error
  • Mac shows a folder with a question mark

Common questions

Will an SSD make my laptop faster?

If your laptop has a spinning hard drive, yes, usually by a lot. Starting up, opening programs and searching files all speed up. If it already has an SSD, a new one mainly helps with space.

Will I lose my files?

If your old drive still works, we copy everything to the new SSD. If the old drive has failed, we try to recover what we can first. We recommend a backup when possible, and we do not erase data during normal repairs.

Can you upgrade the SSD in my MacBook?

Older MacBooks with removable drives can often be upgraded. MacBooks with Apple silicon, and some later Intel models, have storage built into the board, so an upgrade is not possible. We check your model and tell you.

How much storage do I need?

For everyday use, 500 GB is plenty for most people. If you keep a lot of photos, videos or games, 1 TB or more is better. We help you pick the right size for your laptop and budget.
