When a PS5 will not turn on, the internal power supply is a common cause. A power surge, a storm or heat buildup can kill it. Other times the console beeps, shows a light for a second and goes dark, or shuts off in the middle of a game.

Not every dead PS5 has a bad power supply, so we test before replacing anything. We check the power supply, the power cable, the board and the fan. Dust-clogged fans cause a lot of heat shutdowns, so we clean the cooling path while the console is open.

Common questions

Why won't my PS5 turn on?

Common causes are a failed power supply, a bad power cable, a tripped outlet or a board fault. Try a different outlet and cable first. If it still will not start, bring it in and we will test it to find the cause.

Why does my PS5 beep and turn off?

A beep followed by a shutdown often means the console is not getting steady power, or it is overheating. Dust, a weak power supply or a board fault can all cause it. We test to find which one.

Will I lose my games and saves?

No. We do not erase data for normal repairs, and power supply work does not touch your storage. Turning on cloud saves with PlayStation Plus is still a good idea.

How can I protect my PS5 from power problems?

Plug it into a surge protector, keep the vents clear and give the console space on all sides. Cleaning out dust every so often also helps it run cooler and puts less strain on the power supply.
